Road To Wellness
Everyone has a different journey. Living in a country where I could not access pharmaceutical medication for Lyme Disease until 7 months after infection, I had no choice but to explore alternative therapies as my main source of treatment. For me I think this was actually a blessing in disguise as I felt more relief following this path than when I did finally treat the Babesia, Bartonella, and Borellia infections with antibiotics, antimalarials, and other drugs.
The goal of the alternative treatment was to rid my body of any "blockers" for the immune system, support the adrenal glands, liver, kidneys, and ultimately create an internal environment where the bacteria and parasite could no longer thrive.
Below is a partial list of the treatments that I feel helped me the most. They are in no way meant to be presented as a "cure" but it is my hope that others may be able to benefit from my experience.
Regardless of your treatment protocol one thing is certain. Extreme illness requires extreme effort to reach a state of recovery. This shitty thing is actually an opportunity to change your life, to create a lifestyle where you prioritize health.

Diet
I started following a primarily ketogenic therapy diet in June 2016. The basic idea is no grains, no sugars (NO SUGARS), and high quality fat intake. I also have a sensitivity to sulphur, my body has a difficult time metabolizing it so this limited my diet even more. The Lyme bacteria will feed on sugar and sulphur so essentially this diet cuts off their food source. Additionally it helps to reduce inflammation.
Prior to adopting this way of eating I considered myself to have a "healthy diet" and by all standard accounts I did. The big shift came when I had to eat for health vs eat healthfully for pleasure. There is a difference. The good news is there are still some good things to eat on this plan, check out the recipe page for some of my favorites!
Infrared Saunas
Infrared Saunas help to detoxify the body on deep tissue levels. Regular saunas can help remove things that will act as "blockers" to your immune system such as heavy metals, toxins associated with the die off of bacteria, and even residue from medications you might be taking to help fight the infection.
For me, infrared saunas were a HUGE part of my life during illness. In addition to the detoxification benefits it helped to reduce inflammation and pain in my joints. It definitely helped to speed up here reactions when I would experience them and likely helped to alleviate some of the brain fog.
